“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
Philippians 4:6
VOA Southwest Chaplain
Rev. Ev Lundgren
Our chaplain provides vital emotional, spiritual, and ethical support to individuals and families, especially during times of stress, grief, or crisis. He fosters a compassionate workplace culture, offers confidential listening, assists with moral decision-making, and promotes holistic well-being. His presence can improve morale, reduce burnout, and help navigate complex interpersonal or ethical challenges, making him a valuable resource for staff, clients, and the community. Importantly, he offers care and support to people of all faiths, spiritual backgrounds, and those with no religious affiliation, ensuring that everyone feels respected and heard.

Seeking God, Serving People
At Volunteers of America, our prayer request line is a faith-centered channel offering compassionate care, where individuals can share their burdens, seek spiritual support, and experience the healing power of prayer within a caring community.

Request a Prayer
Requesting prayer with our Community of Prayer offers meaningful spiritual and emotional benefits. Spiritually, it provides a sense of divine support through intercession, reminding you that others are lifting your needs in prayer. Emotionally, it brings comfort and peace. Sharing your burdens with compassionate prayer team members can ease anxiety and offer hope, especially during difficult times.
Each prayer request is personally acknowledged by the Chaplain, who sends a confirmation email with the process, follow-up details, and optional support. The Chaplain reviews each request to protect privacy, prepares an appropriate prayer, and adds the submission date. The finalized prayer is then shared on the VOASW app feed for the prayer team. Two weeks later, the Chaplain reaches out to the requester to offer an update, celebrate answered prayers, or retire the request if desired.

Our Prayer Team
We invite VOASW staff members to support our mission through the spiritual practice of prayer by joining the Community of Prayer team. This team will follow the “VOASW Prayer Ministry” feed on an app and pray for requests submitted by our community. Participation is flexible. Team members are welcome to pray as often as they feel led, at times that best suit their personal schedules.
Your prayers are more than words; they are expressions of care, compassion, and shared faith that ripple through our community. Each prayer we lift up contributes to a sacred chorus of support and healing. To help you get started, a brief information session or onboarding email will be provided. This will explain the prayer request process, how to use the app, the role of the team, and basic guidelines.
