Volunteers of America is a national nonprofit, faith-based religious service organization. VOA was founded in 1896 as a church by social reformers, Ballington and Maud Booth. The national structure of VOA consists of a network of local affiliated independent corporations. Each of the local affiliate corporations provides a variety of social services that strengthen communities and assist less fortunate individuals and families.
Volunteers of America, Southwest Corporation is one of thirty-two (32) affiliate corporations of Volunteers of America, Inc. Southwest Corporation was incorporated as a nonprofit 501 (c) 3 religious service organization in the state of California in October 1984. In 2013 Southwest was authorized to conduct business in the state of Arizona as a foreign corporation. Today, the Volunteers of America Southwest mission is to serve the following five California counties: San Diego, San Bernardino, Riverside, Imperial, and Orange, as well as the state of Arizona.
Southwest Corporation has four core lines of business through which 26 direct service programs are administered. The four lines of business are as follows:
Annually more than 6,000 individuals and families benefit from the program services provided by the Volunteers of America corporation. The corporation employs approximately 400 full and part-time staff and engages more than 350 individuals in volunteer service in local communities throughout our service territory. The Volunteers of America Southwest mission is to take individuals from vulnerable to vibrant.
